Aldo
I wrote a short story for (and about) Aldo yesterday that I was going to submit for publication to help him reach his forever family. Just as I was about to send it off, I found out that Aldo had been adopted. Finally, his long stay at the shelter had come to an end. Finally, someone had noticed him.
Below you’ll find what I wrote. I hope his new family reads this and knows how incredibly thankful I am that Aldo got what his heart desired most. Happy tails, Aldo!
Aldo’s Story
He is well-behaved, sits when asked, and doesn’t pull on the leash. He is affectionate and charming and dazzles with his signature one-ear-up-one-ear-down pose. He strikes a good balance between calm and active. He is the kind of easygoing dog most people would love to welcome into their homes. If they noticed him.
Aldo has been a shelter resident since mid-June and has been unsuccessful at grabbing potential adopters’ attention despite his pawsome qualities. But he is really ready to check out of his kennel and into his forever home, so he decided it was time to think outside the box and create scroll-stopping content that will help him find his perfect family.
One Saturday afternoon, he jumped off his bed, walked out of his kennel, and strolled to the shelter’s photo barn where he picked out a yellow bandana that would contrast his shiny black-and-white coat, and positioned himself in front of a green screen. One ear perked up, one casually floppy, Aldo showed the camera his signature pose accompanied by his head-turning, tongue-out smile.
Then, he traveled. To places all over the world. Without ever leaving the barn.
With the help of computer software, the green background gave way to various sought-after destinations, and Aldo, being a true tourist, took advantage of every photo opportunity that presented itself. From famous castles and bridges to scenic city views, the border collie mix sat in front of or next to them all, taking his distinctive ear acrobatics to international heights.

After his photo session had come to an end and he had returned to his kennel, Aldo reflected on his creative efforts of the day. He had virtually explored so many far-away, popular locations and dream destinations, all in the hope of finding that one place nearby that his heart desires most of all: his very own, forever home.
