The Athletic Five

As 2018 is ending and we’re getting ready to ring in the new year, some of us are compiling that traditional list of New Year’s resolutions. If your list includes being more active, you’re in luck—there’s a dog for that. At the Weatherford shelter.

Several, to be exact. And they spent last Saturday showing off their athleticism because they know that’s in high demand right now. With January 1 approaching, they sense we’re all looking to walk off those holiday indulgences, and the dogs are here to help.

The good news is, we don’t even have to wait until January to get started on that active lifestyle. The four-leggers are ready to go for walks NOW. “Procrastination is so 2018,” the dogs think, and they’re hoping someone will come see them at the shelter right after Christmas, so they can start off 2019 at their forever homes with their new families.

That 10,000-steps-a-day goal? That quick walk to get some fresh air? Stanley, Maisie, Charles, Walter, and Mack, aka the Athletic Five, are here for it and would love to join in on the fun.

Walter thinks he’d also be a great conversation starter with his pretty eyes in case you want to meet those new neighbors. If not, you can just pretend the dog wants to keep moving and be on your way. Dogs—great for extroverts and introverts alike, right?!

Mack wants to highlight that he LOVES to play fetch. So, if you’re not feeling that walk on a cold morning, he’ll probably settle for some playtime in the yard. It’s all about changing up that workout, isn’t it?

Stanley enjoys running around as much as the next dog, but rumor has it that, in exchange for a treat and a spot on the couch, he’ll let you have that relaxing afternoon in front of the TV.

Charles is a jack-of-all-trades, master of all when it comes to playtime. He will catch balls, fetch ropes, bolt around the yard, and play in water. Building on variety, Charles is confident that he can bring some fun into everyday life.

Maisie wants you to know that she’s no replacement for your personal trainer. While she feels she’d make a great walking companion, she also loves to just be cuddled and wouldn’t mind a lazy day on the couch, either. Rest days are still a thing though, right…

Ready to start off 2019 with your new best four-legged friend? Then head to the Weatherford shelter and take a look at the wonderful dogs eager to find their forever homes.

Not ready to commit but want to help the shelter dogs? Check out the Walk for a Dog app and see how you can combine that active lifestyle with fund-raising.
