Five Dogs Who Want to Start off the New Year with Their Forever Families
Christmas is just around the corner. The presents are under the tree, the house is clean (enough), and the groceries for a festive dinner are in the fridge. We’re all ready for the celebration.
But before we all get wrapped up in eating too much and opening gifts, I want to draw some attention to the dogs who’ll be spending Christmas in their kennels at the shelter. They’re ready to celebrate, too, and are waiting for their pawfect families to share their homes with them.
Yesterday, I had the chance to meet some of the new faces at the Weatherford shelter, and I hope you’ll find them as adorable as I do.
Let’s start with Bullet. He’s got a tough name, but he’s really a big sweetheart who just wants to be cuddled. He enjoys running around the yard and loves showing off his athletic side, but he excels at treat stealing. In fact, if Bullet had a résumé, it would probably look a little like this:
Skills:
• Treat stealing
• Running
• Cuddling
• Identifying opportunities for taking treats
• Charming hobby photographer into letting me have a treat without doing any tricks
• Making people’s day
Noteworthy Accomplishments:
• Treat heist 2018: Identified treat jar on table, went for it, removed lid, grabbed jar, ran off with it
• Fun Saturday afternoon 2018: Used charming personality to fill a winter-y Saturday with fun and warmth
Goals:
• Finding forever home
• Bringing a cozy flair and fun-filled days to new home
• Having lazy afternoons on the couch

Next up: Maisie. Maisie is quite the tomboy. She bolts around the play yard with the kind of energy that is expected of dogs her age. But she’s happy to stop and calm down for some coveted attention and cuddles. Although she’s absolutely adorable with an irresistible smile, she doesn’t let it get to her head. Playful Maisie is a down-to-earth dog next door who wants nothing more than a family to call her own.

Let’s not forget about Charles, a fun-loving athlete. From ropes and balls to whatever other toys he can find, he’ll run fast, jump high, and bring them back to you. He also loves water and is pretty much an all-round talent when it comes to having fun. He’ll sit for treats. For photos? Not so much. But who has time for that when there’s fun to be had?

Say hello to Coco. This beautiful lady with her shiny coat is quite stunning, but she has more to offer than just good looks. She is a polite, charming sweetheart who, unlike the boys and gal above, sits without being asked and without the promise of a treat. Beauty? Check. Manners? Check. What else could one ask for?

Have you met Mack? No? Well, he hopes you will want to pay him a visit after reading about him. All he needs is a toy, preferably a ball, and he’s ready to infuse the day with some fun. He takes pride in his fetching skills and loves to show them off, but he’s also fine with sitting down and enjoying some winter sun.

Bullet, Maisie, Charles, Coco, and Mack are hoping to ring in the new year at their forever homes. Will you spread the word about them and help them find their perfect families?
