Earlier this month, Tucker turned 11. And because that’s a pretty big deal in the dog world and a major cause for celebration, I indulged in a bit of birthday shopping to ensure we’d have all the treats and toys needed to make Tucker’s special day truly one he’d enjoy.

In the days leading up to his birthday, Tucker then charmed me into letting him have one of his presents early – a treat dispensing toy that had been recommended to me by a friend and that he promptly traded for Gunner’s lower-effort toy. Both canines approved of the switch: Tucker, a fan of instant rewards, was happy retrieving treat after treat, while Gunner enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to make sure no crumb would be left behind in his newly acquired toy.

After a bit of pre-birthday fun, we then started off Tucker’s special day with a homemade, dog-appropriate breakfast and later in the afternoon, Tucker and Gunner received their remaining presents – two large squeaky balls and two new lick mats that I filled with their favorite treats.

I decided to continue the celebration throughout the weekend and set up our birthday-themed photography backdrop to have a fun-filled photo session with the canines, making Tucker’s birthday truly one to remember.
