The Green-Screen Adventure of the Shelter Dogs

You’ll never guess what the shelter dogs have been up to! They traveled the world. Well, kind of.

Here’s what happened: For months I had been talking about wanting to get a green screen for the photo barn, so I could easily switch out backgrounds and send the dogs “on vacation” and tell a few funny stories that would get them attention on social media and lead to that coveted adoption all the canines are waiting for.

Last week, I was given not one but two green screens, enough to cover the entire photo corner in the barn, by a coworker and friend of my husband’s. Thank you, Jordan Long, for donating your green screens to the shelter dogs!

I couldn’t wait to try out the green screens, so I went to the shelter yesterday and set them up as best I could with what was available in the photo barn – a curtain rod and pushpins – until I’ll be able to get frames for the screens.

And then… shelter volunteer Nancy and I sent the dogs on their travels. They posed like pros and, with a little help from Adobe Photoshop, explored destinations in Texas, Utah, and Europe. Full disclosure: This was my first try at using both green screens and Photoshop, so when you look through the pictures below, please be kind… I see the imperfections, too, but I’m hoping the creations are captivating and funny enough to help the dogs get the attention they need to find their forever homes.

Ready to see the shelter dogs’ virtual vacations? Here they are:

Shy boy Dexter really came out of his shell during his trip to Provo, Utah, where he saw mountains and waterfalls and fell in love with nature.

Marley, sophisticated as she is, paid a visit to the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where she attended the Book of Kells Exhibition.

Affectionate Aldo took his charming personality all the way to Porto, Portugal, where he explored the town, took advantage of pretty much every instaworthy photo op, and even toured the Sandeman Winery. Then he also made a quick stop in Heidelberg, Germany, to see the castle I had been telling him about.

Nina decided to stay close to home and opted to check out the famous Peach Festival her hometown is known for.

If Dexter, Marley, Aldo, or Nina spark your interest, then head to the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter and pay your favorite canine a visit.

And don’t forget to check out dogs Sophie, Roy, Brooklyn, Cheeto, and Sugar, who enjoyed a staycation while their fellow residents were traveling the virtual world.

  1. So adorable! My favorite is the trip that Aldo took to Germany and Nina’s trip to the Peach Festival! I think your first attempt at the green screen vacations is super cute and will get them the attention they need to be adopted! What a wonderful thing you do with and for these sweet babies!!
