New Year, Forever Home: The Shelter Dogs Bark about Their Hopes, Dreams, and Resolutions for 2019
New Year’s Eve is approaching, and as we’re preparing to ring in the new year and making new year’s resolutions, the dogs at the Weatherford shelter are doing the same.
Yesterday, I met up with some of the shelter’s residents to get the scoop on their hopes, dreams, and resolutions for 2019. I also delivered a special message to one of the four-leggers. Find out which one below.
You may already know Bullet, the sassy treat stealer. When I checked in with him, he barked and howled about his love for treats. He was also a bit of a Grinch and said, “No, thanks” to wearing a Santa costume (see photo below).

And I can’t fault him for it—who wants to wear a Santa costume after Christmas?! But the costume was on sale, so I had to buy it, hoping that dressing Bullet up would get him the attention he needs to get adopted.
Bullet had a better idea, however. He sat and posed for some close-ups, threw in a few silly facial expressions and a few pretty smiles, and showed off his treat-finding skills with a puzzle.

For 2019, Bullet wants to become even better at discovering treats, but he’d like to work on resisting temptation and not stealing them anymore.
When he’s in his kennel, cuddled up in a blanket at night, he dreams of his forever home, and he hopes it won’t be much longer until he gets adopted.

As 2018 is coming to an end, Coco is reflecting on what’s really important. A good home and a family that loves her. That is what she is hoping the new year will bring her.
Her resolutions for 2019? Having more lazy days and treat-filled afternoons, cuddling up on the couch in the evenings, and showing her pretty smile and silliness more often. Check out her photos below to get an idea of her smiling skills.

Custard was a little shy and unsure when we first met, but treats made him come out of his shell, and he quickly got comfortable modeling. Check out those ears! And that coat!
For 2019, he, too, dreams of a pawfect home, as they all do. He hopes someone will see his photos, pay him a visit at the shelter, and fall in love with him.

Cat, the dog, LOVES treats but is SO GOOD at resisting temptation. When I held up a treat to get her to look right at the camera, she was so excited she could barely sit still. But she did try and posed until I gave her the sign that I had a good photo of her and she could come get the treat. I guess she knows how important it is to have a show-off-worthy photo when it comes to finding someone to adopt her.
Her wish for 2019? A good home where she will get cuddles, attention, and a few treats occasionally.

By now, you know of Walter. He is a bit of a celebrity in the dog world now, after all. On Friday, December 28, he was featured in The Bark’s weekly Smiling Dogs email.

I delivered the news, and a treat, to him personally, and he was quite excited. The more people that see him, the better his chances of finding his perfect family, right?
Check out Walter’s photos below, taken when he found out about his recent rise to fame.
Walter isn’t the first resident at the Weatherford shelter to make it into the circle of The Bark’s smiling dogs. Before him, Boss, Denver, and Rango were all in the spotlight, too.
Ellie is a happy girl who loves to stop and strike poses in between playing and running around. Besides wanting to find herself a permanent home, she’s hoping to exercise and play more in 2019. She’s dreaming of her human companion who will play fetch with her in the yard, reward her with treats, and find joy in her pretty smile and silly personality.

Did any of these four-leggers spark your interest? Then head to the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter and pay them a visit.
