Five Dogs Looking for a Home
The holiday season is in full swing, and most of us have wish lists, gifting, and decorating on our minds. We have family gatherings and get-togethers with friends to plan, pies to bake and eat too much of, and some last-minute shopping to do thanks to procrastination.
We’re busy during the weeks leading up to festivities, and it’s easy to forget about those that need our help. So, I’m writing this blog post, hopeful that highlighting a few of the shelter’s dogs will help these four-leggers catch the attention of their forever families.
Let’s start with Boss. You may remember Boss from a previous post or may know of him because he is kind of a big deal these days—he was featured in The Bark magazine’s weekly Smiling Dogs email, you know. But he doesn’t let it get to his head. He’s sassy, cool, and confident, but he’s also down-to-earth… quite literally every now and then… he loves rolling around in the grass.

Boss is a bit older, sure, but wiser, too. His treat-stealing skills are on point. And he doesn’t fall for the whole sit-and-you’ll-get-a-treat thing. He wants the treat first, then maybe he’ll sit.
Being at the shelter for the second time, Boss truly is ready to land a furever home in time for the howlidays. Energetic and playful enough for some fun-filled afternoons but also calm enough for lazy evenings on the couch, Boss thinks he’s kind of the best of both worlds.

Next up: Carmelia. This mature lady exudes sophistication and elegance. She’s also quite the sweetheart with a low-maintenance, easy-going personality, who sat and patiently posed for photos, hoping the right family will see her.

And then there’s Anson. Anson takes silly playfulness to the next level. When he saw me entering the yard to take his photos, he ran toward me with excitement, jumping high (Can I borrow some of that energy for the days I find myself out of coffee?!) and locking his eyes on the jar of treats I carried.
He convinced me to let him have one treat pre-photo session, but he quickly developed a taste for the chewy deliciousness and just. couldn’t. wait. to. eat. more. So, when I held up a treat next to the camera to get him to look right at it, Anson instead ran toward the camera, chasing me until he got the treat. Needless to say, no good snapshots of Anson were taken that day. Still, his fun personality makes up for a good photo, right?

Speaking of treat enthusiasts… Bonnie is one of them. Going about it in a politer way than the fellows described above, the treat aficionada simply waits in front of the jar until her wish is granted and she receives the desired treat.

Sweet Bonnie with her chic bow will also sit and stay if asked nicely, and she hopes her good manners will score her a pawfect home just in time for the holiday celebrations.

Tony, the dog, not the tiger, is quite timid and was too shy to have his pictures taken in the photo barn. So, we had to improvise a little and choose a location that he was more comfortable with but that my camera didn’t like.
Why am I posting the less-than-great photos anyways? Because Tony hopes someone will look past his timidness and give him a confidence boost by going to the shelter just to see him.
