Glen, the Dog You Just Have to Meet

Before I went to the animal shelter, my husband asked me not to get attached to any of the dogs there. Meet Glen, the dog I got attached to when I went to the animal shelter:

Glen is a wonderful, multifaceted dog that keeps being overlooked. He has been at the shelter since early July and hasn’t caught anyone’s attention. Except mine, which is why this post exists.

How could I not write about a dog who gives me high fives through his kennel door? You have to admit, that’s one cool dog. So cool, in fact, that I visit him at the shelter whenever I get a chance. Mostly to take photos of him that may score him the family he desires, but also to keep him company on the days when no one comes to adopt him.

We’ve gotten to know each other quite well over the past few weeks. I’ve watched him bolt around the yard, laughed at him sitting and tilting his head sideways with his tongue out as if he were laughing at me first, and looked at him with amazement when, after several rounds of learning the command “sit,” he planted himself in front of me in anticipation of a treat.

I also saw his affectionate side when he lifted his paw and placed it on my arm. Maybe I misinterpreted it and he really just wanted attention… or another treat. But unless he tells me otherwise, I am going to assume he gave me the dog alternative to a hug.

Glen has such a fun, quirky and charming personality. He is goofy and playful, but he is also smart and sweet. And energetic! He would probably make a great running buddy.

Did I mention he is also quite fashionable? Check out his pictures below, and you’ll see what I mean. He could probably take his modeling skills to the “dogwalk.” Sorry, that was a bad attempt at being funny. But I won’t delete it. I’ll leave it right here in case someone shares my sense of humor… or lack thereof.

You know who doesn’t need cheesy wordplays to elicit amusement? Glen! He’s got his funny, slightly silly personality to lighten the mood. You’ll just have to take my word for it. Or better yet, pay him a visit at the shelter and experience it for yourself.

I can’t help but wonder why Glen is being overlooked. Even on social media he wasn’t getting much attention at first. But since Glen hadn’t given up on finding his forever home, I wasn’t going to give up on helping him, either.

One morning, I created another Facebook post about him, with new photos, asking people to help him get to 100 shares. Within hours the goal was reached, and now, about a week later, his Facebook post has been shared almost 700 times.

So many people came together in an effort to help him find his new favorite person. And I have to admit, after the first few hundred shares, I pictured people lining up to adopt him when the shelter opened.

But no one came. And so, Glen is still at the shelter. Waiting. I hope someone else sees what I see in him, because whoever does adopt Glen will be one lucky human.

If you’re interested in this amazing dog, he is at the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter in Texas.
